Youth conference tackles wider IT applications

MANILA, Philippines -- On the first day of the 5th Philippine Youth Congress for Information and Technology (Y4IT), nearly 5,000 students filled the four cinemas rented to host the different IT tracks. The second and third days may prove more challenging for the organizers as they keep up with the thousands of other students who will flock from other regions, including Mindanao.

In fact, the University of the Philippines Information Technology Training Center (UPITTC), the events organizer, estimates that about 14,000 students would attend the three-day event, up from 12,000 in 2006.

This years Y4IT, held at the SM North EDSA Mall, will also be the first time to be held outside the University of the Philippines.

The four mall cinemas simultaneously held up to five tracks each, with topics ranging from software development, IT certification, e-governance, online education, robotics, animation, video game development, business process outsourcing and the contact center industry.

Tech groups planning huge venture conference

Plans are in the works to hold what could be the biggest entrepreneurs' event ever in Atlanta.

The Technology Association of Georgia, Atlanta CEO High Tech Council and Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce are in the early stages of planning the event, described by some organizers as a "venture conference on steroids." Venture Atlanta, tentatively scheduled for October 2008, is expected to attract up to 1,000 investors and entrepreneurs.
